It’s an online interactive map where residents can research or input ‘green living’ hot-spots in the City. If you’re looking for the best urban hike, look no further! How about a place to buy local produce or products? It’s all just a click away. But be sure to add to the map - the more users, the more useful it will become.

The online global mapmaking tool, Open Green Map, is currently under development by Green Map System.  Baltimore is serving as a test site, so you can watch its progress as you visit the Baltimore Green Map online.

Here is a bit of copy from Baltimore Green Map:

Mission Statement
Baltimore Green Map encourages the discovery, use and stewardship of the Baltimore region’s natural, cultural and green living resources for city residents and visitors alike. It reflects the cumulative power of many small actions toward building a healthy and sustainable urban environment for the benefit of all.

Vision
Baltimore Green Map is the central clearinghouse to connect Baltimore residents with natural, cultural and sustainability resources and to promote green tourism opportunities for visitors to the city.  We engage Baltimore with the international green mapping movement, share accomplishments, increase use of existing resources, and stimulate replication of successful greening strategies. We celebrate Baltimore’s opportunities for choosing daily to make sustainability a lifestyle choice.

Strategy
Baltimore Green Map
will:

  • Create print maps
  • Maintain an interactive online web site
  • Lead mapmaking workshops for neighborhood, campus, youth and other groups
  • Serve as a catalyst for increasing people’s use of green resources
  • Reflect Baltimore’s progress toward sustainability
  • Inspire action and stewardship
  • Highlight/share best practices, models for green living

Hey thanks for the great blog, I love this stuff. I don’t usually do much for Earth Day but with everyone going green these days, I thought I’d try to do my part.

I am trying to find easy, simple things I can do to help stop global warming (I don’t plan on buying a hybrid). Has anyone seen that http://www.EarthLab.com is promoting their Earth Day (month) challenge, with the goal to get 1 million people to take their carbon footprint test in April? I took the test, it was easy and only took me about 2 minutes and I am planning on lowering my score with some of their tips.

I am looking for more easy fun stuff to do. If you know of any other sites worth my time let me know.

  • David Byrne, co-founder of the Talking Heads, has turned the New York Battery Maritime Building into a musical instrument. Sitting at a old pipe organ, any ‘musician’ is able to sonically explore the complexity of the building’s system without ever leaving the composers seat. A heavy sound may be for structure. A light sound [...]

  • Ethylene Tetraflouroethylene, commonly known as ETFE, is a type of plastic that is extremely corrosion resistant and very strong. The material is self cleaning because of its chemical composition (very similar to teflon). In addition, ETFE transmits even more light than glass and weighs only 1% of a comparable glass panel. Installation costs are between [...]
